The Eilean Donan Castle

The beautiful castle of Eilean Donan, on the shores of Loch Duich, was built in 1220 by Alexander II, King of Scotland.
It was given to Mackenzie, the earl of Seaforth.
In 1719 a cardinal, from Parma, Alberoni, sent a fleet of Spanish ships with 200 Spanish soldiers to the castle. They helped Charles Stuart, the Catholic pretender to the throne of the United Kingdom.
But the rebellion failed, and the castle was destroyed by an English warship. It was rebuilt 200 years later.
